Frequently Asked Questions
Wall Racks
How do I find the studs under the wall?
Hit the hardware store and pick-up a decent quality stud finder. For personal safety, get the one that tells you where the AC electrical lines are under the wall. Once you’ve used a stud finder, you’ll wonder why you never had one before!
What if the holes do not line up with any studs where I want to mount the racks?
No problem. Stud mounting is not required. Where no stud exists, pre-drill wall anchor holes using 1/4″ (6mm) drill bit. Use a hand screwdriver to turn the spiral drywall anchors into the wall.
Hey, I want to install these racks on concrete or masonry walls! What hardware should I use?
If installing onto brick or concrete you will need countersunk 3/16” diameter concrete screws (or #8 or #10 size [M4-M5] screws), a masonry drill bit, and masonry wall anchors (sorry, not included).
Should I pre-drill holes into studs?
No. Drive the screws thru the drywall and directly into the studs without pre-drilling holes.
How do I install the wall anchors?
Mark hole centre locations using the mounting plate as a template. Use a stud finder to confirm there is no stud under the hole location. Pre-drill holes into drywall using a ¼” (6mm) drill bit. Use a hand screwdriver to turn the spiral drywall anchors into the wall.
Should I use a drywall anchor in a location where there is a stud?
No. It won’t work. Drive the screws thru the drywall and directly into the studs without pre-drilling holes.
Wow, it’s tough to hand screw the screws into all these wall anchors.
Yes, it is. Borrow a power drill from your neighbour and use a Phillips head PH2 bit.
Hmmm, the stud finder indicates there is AC electrical in the area under the wall where I want to mount the rack. What should I do?
$ option: Pick a new mounting location.
$$$$ option: Call an electrician to move the wiring. Warning! Don’t risk drilling into electrical hazards!
Ripper Connectors
Are these straps reusable?
Yes. The hook and loop straps are reusable. Just pull them apart, wrap them around the item and close shut.
How large are the straps?
The hook and loop straps are 38mm / 1.5” wide.
The large size Ripper Connector opens to 432 mm / 17” length which can secure a 30m / 100ft heavy duty 12-gauge outdoor extension cord.
The medium size Ripper Connector opens to 432mm / 10” length which can secure a 15m / 50ft heavy duty 12-gauge outdoor extension cord.
What is the circumference holding diameter of the straps?
6” Circumference holding. Good for three loops of 2” shop vac hose.
Is the carabiner strong?
Hell ya. Solid 8mm / 5/16” Ø steel carabiner with a snap that opens wide enough to grab onto ½” rebar. These aren’t weak and flimsy like the plastic triangle ones.
Is the hook and loop fully adjustable in length?
Yes. The hook and loop fastener material runs the full length of the straps which makes securely adjusting for different sizes possible.
